A bitcoin-like transaction ledger for corporate documents

Since the bitcoin network is already getting obscenely large, using their ledger is not necessarily possible, but the same technology could be modified for our specific purpose.  This network would be specifically for the containing of hashes of ever corporate document in every corporation.  As each and every document is created and subsequently edited, it’s hash is added to the global ledger.  Then if at some point in the future, there is some question or doubt as to the creation or last edited date of a file, it could be searched for in the ledger and verified that it was created on a particular date.  This could be useful if, for example, a company needed to prove in court that a policy document had existed before a certain event to shield themselves from a liability lawsuit.
